Marquita Someliana is a musician based out of eastern North Carolina. She is a pianist, singer, composer, and arranger. Additionally, she has experience working in many different aspects of commercial and electronic music, from recording, engineering, and mixing, to working with various digital audio workstations, synthesizers, and music notation software.
Marquita was born in Sylva, NC, but grew up on the eastern coast of North Carolina. Marquita was raised in a home filled with music. Her passion for music grew out of many nights spent playing all kinds of music with her parents (both professional musicians), three younger sisters, and baby brother. She was also blessed with the opportunity to live in England for several years while her husband served in the USAF. While there, she immersed herself in the music of the region, especially sacred music. This music, along with American folk, jazz, and folk-rock, has been a great influence to her own eclectic style. Marquita is a graduate of Western Carolina University, where she majored in Commercial and Electronic Music. While attending WCU, Marquita was presented several awards and scholarships, both for her academic achievements and musical performances. Additionally, she was selected to present her research at the 2014 National Conference on Undergraduate Research at the University of Kentucky. In December 2014 she graduated summa cum laude. Marquita has enjoyed performing with a variety of ensembles both at WCU and professionally, including the concert choir and early music ensemble, jazz combos and jazz big band, and the Catamount Singers and Electric Soul. In 2018, Marquita received a Master of Arts degree in Worship and Music with a concentration in commercial music performance from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. At Liberty University she focused on piano performance (classical and popular styles), as well as all aspects of music technology, music industry, and commercial styles of composition and arranging. Additionally, she has studied the Biblical, historical, and contemporary uses of music in Christian worship as well as music composition and arranging for the church. She is very passionate about using the arts and music in worship to glorify our wonderful God, as well as to minister to, involve, and lead the congregation in worship. Marquita stays busy teaching private piano lessons, playing for local churches, and accompanying instrumentalists and singers, especially her husband, Cameron Someliana-Lauer. She also enjoys performing in local venues, sharing her original songs, compositions, and arrangements in various settings, as well as arranging and working with music technology. Marquita can be reached by phone at 910-548-2719, or by email at [email protected]. |
